Training and Experience
Andrew has over 15 years experience as an ophthalmic surgeon. Following 3 years of advanced specialist training in London and California he is experienced in new "safe-surgery" techniques used to minimise the risks of surgery and achieve the best outcomes.
Andrew specialises in cataract surgery and glaucoma surgery. He was the first surgeon in Scotland to perform minimally invasive glaucoma surgery and now performs this in the NHS and privately.
He is one of the few surgeons in Scotland experienced in multifocal, toric and extended range of vision intraocular lens cataract surgery.
Andrew has over 70 publications and has been an invited lecturer and faculty member at international meetings including the World Glaucoma Congress and European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
Andrew is a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists' Scientific Committee and is one of only 25 ophthalmologists invited as a member of the British Eye Research Group. He regularly teaches the next generation of surgeons in the UK and abroad and in 2017 is lecturing on educational course at the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
In his spare time Andrew works as a classifier for the British Paralympic Association. Andrew has received several awards for his work, a few of which are detailed below.
